![]() In Gen 8, the only other Teleport pokemon that has seen any traction is Xatu, and no surprise it's due to the fact that it has a very hard time getting statused (yay Magic Bounce) as well as reliable recovery in Roost. ![]() Assuming the opponent is competent and sends in something that beats Chansey (almost any physical attacker will do the trick in OU), when does Chansey get the chance to Teleport aside from a couple times at the start of the match, before rocks chip has beat Chansey up too much? Not only do hazards chip Chansey hard, but Chansey isn't even able to run Leftovers as an item, meaning that if it wants to heal, it has to waste a turn going for Soft-boiled. Chansey also has a big problem with getting chipped down, and thus finding opportunities to Teleport. So right off the bat, you're losing one big reason to run Teleport, which is reliable Wish passing. You're unable to transfer a Wish Chansey to either game, so you're unable to have Wish/Teleport on the same set. Wish is a rare event from Gen 3, while Teleport is only available from the Gen 1 virtual console or from LGPE. For one, Wish and Teleport are not compatible on the same set. Now compare this with what I like to call "bad Teleport Pokemon", and I think the best example of a bad Teleport Pokemon is Chansey (for nat dex anyway). This gives Slowbro insane longevity without having to waste turns, which is absolutely key for Teleport Pokemon. Slowbro on the other hand has access to Regenerator, which like Clefable, allows Slowbro to heal off a lot of the chip damage it would receive from hazards instantly. This in turn leads to Clefable not needing to waste as many turns wishing itself up because of hazard damage - allowing Clef to be a better defensive Pokemon because of it. In Clef's case, this is due to Magic Guard, which gives it an automatic immunity to Toxic and Hazards, making it significantly harder to chip. The reason for this is because these Pokemon have ways to get around many of the common pitfalls of Teleport Pokemon - they have ways to get around chip damage without having to repeatedly spam recovery moves, and neither are really all that bothered by passive Pokemon. The only Pokemon that can really abuse Teleport all that effectively are Clefable in Gen 8 and Slowbro in Nat Dex (with Clefairy kinda doing it alright in lower tiers, and Slowking basically being a budget Slowbro). ![]() You don't see Xatu, Claydol, or Beheeyem tearing up higher tiers because of it (with Xatu only every coming close). Teleport is a great move for sure, but I'm extremely hesitant to call it broken. ![]()
